MARION – An early Monday morning traffic stop in Marion ends up with a Mississippi man landing in jail on charges including two involving cannabis.

According to a Marion Police Department press release, just before 1 a.m., a Marion Police officer saw a driver speeding in a  construction zone on southbound I-57 north of Marion. The officer pulled the driver over after he got off the interstate and stopped at the West Main Street-Comfort Drive intersection.

During a conversation with the driver, officers noticed a large plastic bag in the rear of the vehicle that appeared to be cannabis. Upon further investigation, officers located three large bags containing 82.9 pounds of cannabis, 30 bottles of THC syrup and 40 vape pens.

The driver of the vehicle, 44-year-old William A. Davis of Lexington, MS, was arrested for Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis greater than 5,000 grams, Cannabis Trafficking greater than 5,000 grams, Driving While License Revoked or Suspended, and Speeding in a Construction Zone.

Williams was transported to the Williamson County Jail pending a court appearance.
