
BENTON, KY – A Jonesboro man is lodged in the Marshall County, KY Detention Center after leading law enforcement on a pursuit on a stolen motorcycle Sunday.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, it was reported that the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office had been in pursuit of a motorcycle on I-69 coming into Marshall County and stopped pursuing. Moments later, the motorcycle matching the previous description was seen in Benton.
A Benton, KY police officer tried to stop the bike, but the operator of the bike, 35-year-old Joseph Kelly of Jonesboro fled from the officer and was last seen on U.S. 641 traveling toward Calloway County.
Marshall County deputies canvassed the area and located Kelley who was armed with a knife standing near a motorcycle in the parking lot of a business in Hardin. Kelley then got back on the motorcycle and fled deputies on Brewers Highway. Kelley reached speeds as high as 113 mph during the pursuit. Kelley lost control of the motorcycle and ran off the roadway into a yard of a home and then into a corn field. Kelley then fled on foot. The motorcycle was determined to be stolen from out of Union County, IL. Deputies were able to locate Kelley hiding in a wooded area and Kelley was taken into custody.
Kelley is charged with Fleeing or Evading Police 1st degree, Speeding 26 mph over limit, Reckless Driving, Driving on DUI suspended license, Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, No Motorcycle Operator’s License, Receiving Stolen Property $10,000 or more, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Criminal Trespassing, Fleeing Evading Police on Foot, Criminal Mischief 1st degree, Destruction of VIN Number Tampering with Physical Evidence and numerous traffic offenses.
Kelley was also wanted out of Illinois for other crimes.
