Franklin County Treasurer Releases Real Estate Tax Collection Timeline

BENTON – Franklin County Treasurer Steve Vercellino has released the timeline for 2022 Real Estate Taxes Payable 2023. Real Estate Taxes will be mailed Aug. 18. The 1st installment is due Sept. 22 and the 2nd installment is due Nov. 3.

Dates – Importance
August 18th, 2023 (Fri.) (No Later Than) – Tax Bills Mailed to Taxpayers
August 21st, 2023 (Mon.) – Tax Collection Begins
August 21st, 2023 (Mon.) – September 22nd, 2023 (Fri.) – Banks Can Accept 1st Installment Payments or Payments in Full
September 22nd, 2023 (Fri.) – 1st Installment Due Date
September 23rd, 2023 (Sat.) to November 3rd, 2023 (Fri.) – Banks Can only Accept 2nd Installment Payments If 1st Installment Was Paid
November 3rd, 2023 (Fri.) – 2nd Installment Due Date. Last Day to Pay at Banks
November 4th, 2023 (Sat.) – Remaining Payments and Penalties Must Be Mailed to or Processed by the Treasurer’s Office
November 30th, 2023 (Thurs.) – Last Day to Pay with Personal Check
December 4th, 2023 (Mon.) – Certified Notices Mailed (Fee Added)
December 21st, 2023 (Thurs.) – Publication of Unpaid Taxes (Fee Added)
December 26th, 2023(Tues.) – Last Day to Accept Online Payments
January 4th, 2024 (Thurs.) – Produce Annual Tax Judgment Record
December 29th, 2023 (Fri.) – Last Day to Register for Tax Sale
January 4th, 2024 (Thurs.) – Application for Judgment
January 5th, 2024 (Fri.) – Judgment (Last Day to Remove Property from Tax Sale)
January 12th, 2024 (Fri.) – 2022 Payable 2023 Unpaid Taxes Sold. (More Interest/Fees). Tax Payer May Redeem Taxes in County Clerk’s Office.

Taxes can be paid:
1) In the Treasurer’s Office at 901 Public Square in Benton
2) By mail at PO BOX 967, Benton, IL 62812
3) Online at http://franklinil.devnetwedge.com/
4) At Southern Illinois Bank, State Bank of Whittington, Peoples National Bank, First Financial Bank, Legence Bank, and First Southern Bank.
5) Utilize the dropbox for contactless payments. The dropbox is attached to the south side of the Campbell Building off of Route 37 on Church Street in Benton.
