MARION – The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has recovered stolen property taken during a recent burglary at the Williamson County Highway Department in Marion.

According to the sheriff’s office, during the burglary last Wednesday, the suspect attempted to steal a highway department vehicle only to get stuck while attempting to leave the property. The suspect was able to get away with $15,462.83 worth of tools.

Last Friday, investigators from the sheriff’s office obtained information that four of the stolen items were located in three pawn shops in Evansville, IN. During the investigation a male from Evansville, IN was identified as the person responsible for pawning the stolen items.

On Tuesday, investigators from the sheriff’s office conducted an operation in Evansville, IN which resulted in locating the male suspect. Investigators were able to recover thousands of dollars of stolen items. Those items were returned to the highway department.

Investigators have identified the suspect and a warrant for their arrest is forthcoming.

The sheriff’s office says this investigation is ongoing and additional persons of interest are expected along with the recovery of additional stolen items.
