ELKVILLE – A Marion man died after being involved in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Jackson County.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded around 2:10 a.m. to the crash on Royalton Road at Barwick Road in rural Elkville.
The caller reported he had struck debris in the roadway and then located a crashed vehicle off the roadway. The driver was found on the ground a short distance from the vehicle. He was identified as 31-year-old Trenton J. Miller of Marion.
Preliminary investigation shows a blue 2023 Hyundai Sante Fe was eastbound on Royalton Road, approaching Barwick Road, in rural Elkville. The vehicle was being driven by Miller. Miller’s vehicle left the road to the right, struck a culvert, then a utility pole, then overturned several times. Miller was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was treated at the scene, then transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The road was closed for about 4 ½ hours.
The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The Jackson County Ambulance Service, the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, Elkville Fire Department, Dowell Fire Department, and Royalton Fire Department assisted on the call.
