MARION – New information has delayed a 2019 sex abuse and assault case against a former Johnston City teacher and coach who was scheduled for jury trial next week.
Attorneys in the case against Trevor Clark of Pittsburg agreed Tuesday to delay the trial until February 2024, after the prosecution informed the court Illinois State Police had just provided them with a substantial amount of discovery in the two cases against the former coach and teacher.
Clark was first arrested in 2019 and charged with five counts of Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse and four counts of Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault of a person between the ages of 13 and 17 who was under his supervision.
Bond in the case was set at $500,000. Clark was released after posting $50,000 cash bail.
At the time, Illinois State Police asked for any other possible victims to come forward and one year later, a second case was filed against Clark – this one charging him with two Class 1 felonies for criminal sexual assault of a person between the ages of 13 and 17 who was under his supervision.
Bond in the second case was set at $250,000. Clark was released after posting $25,000 cash bail.
Clark was in his second stint as Johnston City Baseball’s head coach when he was arrested in 2019.
He had first served in that position from 1998 to 2011 and returned to that role in 2014 until his arrest in 2019.
Both cases against Clark are being prosecuted by Special Prosecutor Lorinda Lamken with the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor’s Office.
Attorneys have requested the court set aside two weeks starting Feb. 13, 2024, for a jury trial in both cases. A final pretrial is scheduled for Jan. 26.
