METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023.
November 4, 2023
Brentyn J. Brown, 20, of Metropolis was arrested in the 300 block of W. 9th St. Brown was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Domestic Battery (petition to revoke supervision/parole). Brown was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis officers were actively searching for a red Toyota Scion being driven by Austin L Sumnlers, 28, of Brookport. Sumnlers had been advised by Metropolis officers and Massac County deputies that they were attempting to locate and arrest Peyton R. Norwood, 20, of Metropolis who was wanted on a warrant. The warrants were issued by Massac County for possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. The officers had been told that Norwood and Sumnlers were together. Sumnlers had been located however, Norwood was not there at the time. A short time later, officers learned that they were back together and may be enroute to Metropolis from Paducah. Metropolis officers located the Toyota and conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 45 at Belgrade. Norwood fled the vehicle and foot chase ensued. While chasing Norwood, Sumnlers drove away. Norwood was captured and charged with the warrants as well as resisting arrest. Norwood was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Sumnlers was tracked down to a residence on Unionville Rd. Sumnlers was charged with Aiding a Fugitive, Obstructing Justice and Fleeing to Elude Police. Sumnlers was also lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Asset Protection Officers from Casey’s General Store contacted the MPD in reference to thefts being conducted by an employee. They handed over numerous videos showing the employee, Laurinda D. Rideout, 43, of Metropolis stealing over $3,700 in cash on numerous occasions. Rideout was located at her residence in the 700 block of Catherine. Rideout was arrested for Felony Theft and lodged at the Massac County Detention Center pending a bond/detention hearing.
Metropolis officers were called to the 1800 block of Scott St. The caller stated a male was walking through yards, yelling and cursing. Officers located Eric D. Mitchell, 40, of Metropolis who was acting irrational. A computer check revealed that Mitchell was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Burglary. Mitchell was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital for observation, and once cleared, he was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
November 9, 2023
Phoebe N. Davis, 38, of Metropolis was arrested at a residence in the 1200 block of Baynes. Davis was wanted on warrants issued by Massac County. The warrants were for Burglary and Possession of Methamphetamine. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Brittany A. Turner, 30, of Metropolis was arrested at the McDonald’s Restaurant. Turner was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Failure to Appear – Driving while License Suspended. Turner was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
November 11, 2023
At approximately 11:32 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of E. 5th St. to investigate a report of a shirtless male digging around the City of Metropolis sign and throwing debris in the road way. Officers arrived in the area, and located the white male and approached him. Eric D Lescault, 36, of Metropolis stated he was walking along 5th St. and decided to pull grass and remove trash along the road. Lescault’s speech was rapid and difficult to understand. Lescault was advised not to remove the grass and stay away from the roadway.
At 12:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of 900 block of E. 12th St. to investigate a white male in traffic swinging a large stick at passing cars. Officers arrived and observed Lescault walking along 12th St. swinging a large stick. Lescault denied swinging the stick at traffic and being in the roadway. Officers confiscated the stick and sent Lescault on his way. Lescault was advised to stay on the sidewalk out of the roadway.
At 12:25 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area 12th and Ferry St. to investigate a report of a male, jumping in and out of traffic and yelling at vehicles. Officers arrived in the area and observed Lescault walking along 12th St. in the street and appeared to be talking to himself. I explained to Lescault the complaint made against him. Lescault stated he was walking and became excited after having a, “religious epiphany.” Lescault was informed that his actions alarmed and disturbed the motorist on 12th St and placed him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. Lescault was cited and released.
