METROPOLIS – A Metropolis man created some trouble across parts of Metropolis Saturday and ended up being arrested for Disorderly Conduct.

According to Metropolis Police, around 11:30 a.m., officers were sent to the 1500 block of East 5th Street to to investigate a report of a shirtless man digging around the City of Metropolis sign and throwing debris in the roadway. Officers arrived and located 36-year-old Eric D. Lescault, of Metropolis, and approached him. Lescault told police he was walking along 5th Street and decided to pull grass and remove trash along the road. Lescault’s speech was rapid and difficult to understand. Lescault was advised not to remove the grass and stay away from the roadway.

Then at noon, officers were sent to the area of the 900 block of East 12th Street to investigate a man in traffic swinging a large stick at passing cars. When officers arrived, they saw Lescault walking along 12th Street swinging a large stick. Lescault denied swinging the stick at traffic and being in the roadway. Officers confiscated the stick and sent Lescault on his way. Lescault was advised to stay on the sidewalk out of the roadway.

Then at 12:25 p.m., officers were sent to the area of 12th and Ferry Street to investigate a report of a man jumping in and out of traffic and yelling at vehicles. Officers arrived and saw Lescault walking along 12th Street in the street and appeared to be talking to himself. Police explained to Lescault the complaint made against him. Lescault stated he was walking and became excited after having a “religious epiphany.” Lescault was informed that his actions alarmed and disturbed the motorist on 12th Street and placed him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. Lescault was cited and released.
