BENTON – A Galatia man lost his life in a two-vehicle, head-on crash Monday night on South Thompsonville Road just north of the Franklin/Williamson County line.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call about the crash around 8:20 p.m. The caller reported two involved vehicles and stated that the crash was head-on. Deputies and other emergency services personnel responded.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the crash involved a 2016 Toyota Camry and a 2005 Ford F350 truck and that the vehicles had struck head-on. Both vehicles had significant damage. The driver of the Camry, 32-year-old Devin Chase Stanley, of Galatia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the F350, 38-year-old Ryan K. Sauerhage, of Macedonia, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene for treatment. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

The Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit was requested to assist in the investigation. Cave-Eastern Fire, West Frankfort Fire, AMR Ambulance, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office assisted.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
