According to the sheriff’s office, Rusty L. Wagley Jr. was cited for Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer, Driving While License Revoked (Felony), Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Improper Turn, and Operating Uninsured Vehicle. He was taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail.

The sheriff’s office says just after 6:30 p.m. on Monday Dec. 18,  deputies saw Wagley Jr. driving a vehicle near the intersection of Herrin Road and Mayor Caliper Drive in Colp. Wagley Jr. was known to deputies from prior law enforcement contacts and they were aware that his Illinois driver’s license was revoked. Wagley Jr. was seen committing several motor vehicle violations.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop by activating the vehicle’s emergency lighting and siren. Wagley Jr. failed to yield and continued traveling westbound on Dr. Springs Road for a half mile before turning into a driveway on Dr. Springs Road. As the vehicle came to a stop, Wagley Jr. exited the driver’s seat, looked back at deputies, and fled on foot. Deputies yelled for Wagley Jr. to stop and he refused to comply running north into the garage of the home. Once in the garage, Wagley Jr. ran toward a door and entered his neighbor’s home. Law enforcement surrounded the home and waited for additional units to arrive.

Deputies on scene were aware that Wagley Jr. had an extensive history of resisting, battering, and assaulting law enforcement officials. Moments later, and with eight law enforcement officers on scene, deputies were able to enter the home through the front door and saw Wagley Jr. sitting in a recliner.

Wagley Jr. was ordered to stand up and place his hands behind his back. Wagley Jr. refused to stand up, so deputies grabbed hold of him and assisted him to his feet. Wagley Jr. resisted by attempting to pull away from deputies at which time he was assisted to the ground. Wagley Jr. continued to resist deputies efforts to place him into custody.

While attempting to handcuff Wagley Jr., he continued to resist by keeping his right arm under his torso while rolling from his stomach to his right side and kicking at deputies. Deputies rolled Wagley Jr. to his stomach and grabbed hold of his right forearm. Wagley Jr. continued to kick and refused to release his right arm from under his torso after repeatedly being told to do so. Wagley Jr. continued to remain non-compliant and combative, however deputies were eventually able to secure his right arm behind his back and he was handcuffed without further incident.
