BENTON – Now that spring planting season is underway, Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon reminds you to use a “safety first” approach when driving near slow moving farm equipment on rural roads.

Slow down when approaching farming equipment, especially those with a bright orange, slow moving vehicle placard or flashing hazard lights. Give yourself plenty of space and be prepared to stop. Always assume that the operator of the equipment does not see you. Before passing, make sure that the farmer is not preparing to turn, and allow plenty of room for wide equipment.

Be alert, be patient, be courteous and make sure this planting season is a safe one.
