CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police continue to investigate a recent traffic crash that killed a pedestrian.

Police say around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, they responded to the 800 block of East Walnut Street for a traffic crash in which a vehicle struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, later identified as 29-year-old Marcus Valliant of Carbondale, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed the pedestrian walked into the roadway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the vehicle stopped and called 911. The driver is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Despite efforts by hospital staff, Valliant did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead Thursday.
