MCLEANSBORO – Runa Mae Wells, age 70, of McLeansboro, IL, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN, surrounded by her husband and children.
She was born June 16, 1953 in Carmi, IL, the youngest of Plesent Harlan “Hap” and Wilma Mae (Hutchcraft) Puckett. She married George Thomas Wells of Mt. Vernon, IN, on March 24, 1972, in McLeansboro, IL, and he survives. They celebrated 52 years of marriage and were blessed with two children – son Steven and daughter Salena. She always loved George as her husband and best friend. She always said he was a gift from God.
Runa was a cook, having worked in the School District #5 of Carmi, IL, and also Brownsville, IL. She had such a love for children – spreading joy. She was of Christian faith. Both she and George always had great hospitality for anyone who came to their home. She loved country living, camping and trail riding.
Survivors include her husband George, son Steven (Brooke) Wells of Omaha, IL, and their children (her grandchildren Cooper, Mattie and Wyatt); daughter Salena (Brad) Henderson of McLeansboro, IL, and their children (her grandchildren) Clayton and Chloe; three sisters Nola Trebuth, Jolene (Billy) Knight, all of Carmi, IL, and Mary (Raymond) Partin of Mt. Carmel, IL. Also several nieces, nephews and cousins and a very special uncle, Charles Hutchcraft, of Effingham, IL.
Runa was preceded in death by her parents “Hap” and Wilma Puckett, brother Jimmy Puckett, sister Judy Cook, and half-brother Jackie Franklin.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon with the funeal service at noon at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church in McLeansboro. Pastors Jacob Gray and Chad Everett will officiate the services. Burial will be held in the Ditney Ridge Cemetery in Norris City, IL.
