AVA – A Steeleville woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday in Jackson County.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and first responders from the Ava and Campbell Hill fire departments responded to the scene at the intersection of Illinois 4 and Inman Road in rural Ava around 9:40 a.m.

Evidence on scene found that a silver 2023 Ford Explorer, driven by 71-year-old Joy Kiehna of Steeleville, was at the marked stop intersection on Inman Road and Illinois 4. She pulled her vehicle onto the highway and into the path of a black 2019 GMC pickup driven by 18-year-old Tyler Fowlkes of Pinckneyville.

Kiehna was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fowlkes and his two passengers were not injured in the crash.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.
