HARRISBURG – Harrisburg Unit 3 Schools will hold school safety drills next week.

The school district’s safety director, Scott Isaacs, says this will include drills for fire, earthquake, severe weather, and emergency lockdown.

Isaacs says these drills are geared to protect students and staff in the unlikely events that pose threats to personal safety. Specifically, these drills are designed not only with protection as a main focus but also to do so with minimal stress.

At Bulldog Early Learning Academy and the grade schools, students only follow staff direction on safe places in the buildings. The emergency lockdown drills at Harrisburg Middle School and Harrisburg High School are designed to provide the protocol to address those situations.

Isaacs says there are no surprise drills. All students and staff know the date and time of the emergency lockdown drills.

The state mandates that these drills are performed with police officers observing. The drills will be mostly concluded by Oct. 1.
