BUCKNER – An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Franklin County.

Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon says just before 2 Thursday afternoon, deputies responded to a home near Buckner regarding a domestic violence incident.

Deputies spoke with the involved suspect and saw that the suspect possessed a firearm. The suspect refused to comply with orders from deputies.

As deputies approached, the suspect showed the firearm and pointed it at deputies. As a result, a deputy fired his handgun striking the suspect. Deputies requested assistance from other law enforcement agencies. AMR Ambulance and Air Evac were also requested to respond. Deputies rendered first aid until medical personnel arrived on scene.  The suspect was soon airlifted to an out of state trauma center.

The sheriff’s office immediately requested the Illinois State Police Zone 7 Division of Criminal Investigations to investigate the officer involved shooting.
