MT. VERNON – The planned concussion seminar with Dr. Wendell Becton has been postponed after Friday’s Hamilton County football game was moved to Monday. Dr. Becton provides medical care during the games for athletes. The lecture will now take place Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in Conference Room Side A at Deaconess Illinois Crossroads, located at 8 Doctors Park Rd., in Mt. Vernon.
This seminar is aimed at educating parents, students, coaches and even former athletes about the importance of sports medicine and how to conservatively treat sports-related injuries and concussions. With sports injuries on the rise, especially among student-athletes, Dr. Becton will provide valuable insights into prevention, early diagnosis and non-surgical treatment options.
Dr. Becton, who has a passion for bringing sports medicine care to rural areas, said, “We want to empower the community with knowledge and resources to handle injuries more effectively, keeping athletes safe and on the path to recovery. Concussions, in particular, are serious injuries that can have long-term effects, so it’s critical to know how to properly manage them.”
Attendees will gain a better understanding of injury prevention, treatment options and the role of sports medicine in maintaining athlete health. This is a free event and is open to all interested community members, especially those involved in sports.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Becton spends his free time attending Hamilton County football games to provide on-the-spot care for athletes. His commitment to making sports medicine accessible in rural areas is part of his mission to ensure every athlete, regardless of location, has access to immediate and professional care.
