MURPHYSBORO – A Louisville, Kentucky man has been indicted in the August 2021 death of SIU student Keeshanna Jackson.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph Cervantez announced Thursday that 22-year-old Keavonte T. Nesby was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Jackson’s death on August 22, 2021.

Cervantez presented evidence before a Jackson County Grand Jury that on Sunday, August 22, 2021, Carbondale Police received multiple 911 calls of shots fired outside of a large house party located at 501 West Cherry Street in Carbondale.

A total of four victims suffered gunshot wounds.

Jackson, who was a freshman at SIU Carbondale, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Cervantez commended the efforts of the Carbondale Police Department for their continued commitment to this investigation.

Nesby appeared in front of a Jackson County Circuit Judge for a first appearance hearing on Sept. 4, 2024.
