MARION – The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man twice in one week for possessing stolen vehicles.

Around 12:10 last Tuesday afternoon, deputies found a stolen 2010 Buick Enclave at the intersection of Skyline Drive and West Main Street in Marion. Undercover units conducted surveillance and the vehicle was stopped at Third and Main Street. The vehicle was recovered. The driver, Anthony C. Thompson, was taken into custody without incident.

A plastic bag containing meth was found in the vehicle.

Thompson was cited for Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine and
Driving While License Suspended. He was taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail. He was released the next day under pretrial conditions because the offense is not detainable under the SAFE-T Act.

Around 11:15 Sunday morning, deputies searching for a stolen vehicle believed to be in the area found it parked at the Comfort Inn on Black Diamond Drive in Marion. Deputies approached the vehicle and identified the driver as Thompson. He had a recently issued outstanding arrest warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Thompson was taken into custody and cited Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Violation of Conditions of Pretrial Release, Driving While License Suspended and Improper Use Of Evidence Of Registration.

Thompson was transported to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail.
