METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024.
On Sept. 17, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed a silver Malibu on Pullen Road. The officer recognized the driver, Willow D. Magee, 20, of Metropolis. The officer was aware that she did not have a valid driver’s license and was wanted on felony warrants. A traffic stop was conducted and a computer check confirmed that she did not have a driver’s license. The warrants were confirmed as valid by Kentucky. The warrants were for Unlawful Possession of Drugs, Resisting Arrest and numerous other charges. She was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On Sept. 17, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed a vehicle disobey a stop sign on Ferry and West 10th. A traffic stop was conducted and a computer check on the driver, Steve Zhang, 50, of Jacksonville, Florida, revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. Zhang was charged with Driving while Suspended and the stop sign violation. He was released on a notice to appear.
On Sept. 18, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to Washington Park. The victim had reported his bicycle stolen from the bowling alley a few weeks ago. The theft was captured on video from the bowling alley and the victim recognized the thief at the park. Offices met with the victim and Eugene J. Schwien, 56, of Metropolis. Schwien admitted to the theft but did not know where the bike was. Schwien was charged with Theft and issued a notice to appear.
On Sept. 22, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to a two-vehicle crash at 19th and Market Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that a pick-up truck blew the stop sign and went into the oncoming lane striking a van. The pick-up fled the scene. Officers located the vehicle with extensive damage in the sports park. The driver, Ryan H. Davis, 26, of Metropolis showed extreme signs of impairment, and failed the field sobriety tests. Davis was arrested and charged with Aggravated DUI-Drugs, Driving while License Revoked, Improper Lane Usage and Disobeying a Stop Sign. After being cleared from the hospital, he was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On Sept. 19, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign on West 19th and West 10th Street. A traffic stop was conducted. A computer check revealed that the driver, Shawn L. Lewis, 42, of Metropolis had a revoked driver’s license and that he was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by the Illinois Dept. of Corrections for failure to return from furlough. Lewis was arrested and charged with DWL-Revoked, Disobey Stop Sign and the warrant. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On Sept. 20, 2024, Autumn J. Lynn, 39, of Golconda was arrested on West 10th and West 19th. Lynn was wanted on warrants. The warrants were issued by Massac County for FTA-Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Credit Card belonging to another, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On Sept. 26, 2024, Brandon L. Gilbert, 32, of Metropolis was arrested at a residence at West 7th and Market. Gilbert was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Retail Theft. Gilbert was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On Sept. 27, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1600 block of North Avenue. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated that she was struck and knocked around. Officers could see signs of injury on her neck and other parts of her body. Christopher G. Moore, 25, of Paducah, KY, was arrested for Domestic Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
