AVA – A 17-year-old juvenile driver sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, in a two-vehicle accident in rural Ava Monday morning.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the crash with road blockage and possible injuries around 8:15 a.m. on Illinois 4 near Fuhrhop Road.

A semi driven by a 61-year-old Michigan man was going north on Illinois 4 when he slowed to make a right-hand turn. A pickup truck, driven by the juvenile, was also going north behind the semi on Illinois 4. The juvenile failed to slow down behind the semi as it was making its turn, causing the juvenile’s truck to strike the semi.

An ambulance took the juvenile to an area hospital for his injuries. The semi driver was not injured. The pickup sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.
