MARION – A Carterville man is facing burglary charges in Williamson County.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, around 8:40 Thursday morning, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Illinois 37 north of Marion and arrested the driver, Cody L. McKenzie, on an outstanding Franklin County failure to appear warrant for Burglary. McKenzie was taken and booked into the Williamson County Jail.
During the traffic stop, deputies saw several items in McKenzie’s vehicle that they suspected of being stolen. They took measures to inventory the vehicle prior to it being towed.
Then at 5 Thursday afternoon, deputies received a report of a storage unit in eastern Williamson County which had been broken into and had numerous items missing. A subsequent investigation confirmed that the items contained in McKenzie’s vehicle were the items taken from the storage unit.
McKenzie was cited for Burglary – a Class 2 felony – and Possession of Burglary Tools, a Class 4 felony.
