MCLEANSBORO – David Allen Golden, 64, of McLeansboro passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

David was born October 19, 1958, in Torence, CA to Everett Golden and Mary (Fischer) Golden. David attended McLeansboro High School and graduated in 1978. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where his rank was Specialist Four, as a diesel mechanic. He served four years in Germany and two years stateside. After serving his country, he began a career in driving tractor trailers for United Van Lines. After many years he bought his own rig and became owner operator. When he bought his own truck, David could not pass a truck stop that had a chrome shop in it. That was known to David as his “Candy Store.” He drove for United for 32 years. He left United to work for BMT, a privately owned trucking to be home every weekend to spend time with his beloved family. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1882 of McLeansboro, IL for many years. He enjoyed anything that had to do with trucking, fishing and hunting. His beloved family was what he loved the most and enjoyed spending the majority of his free time from the road, with his wife, two children, their families and his grandson.

Survivors include his devoted wife Teresa (Miles) Golden of 36 years, McLeansboro, IL; son Richard Golden and wife Jamie of Elberfeld, IN; daughter Jacie (Golden) Devoy and Husband Jonathan of McLeansboro, IL; grandson Dean Robert Devoy; devoted friend and brother Richard Drew of McLeansboro; brothers-in-law Steve Miles and wife Cheryl, Cape Corral, FL; Alan Miles and wife Patti, McLeansboro, IL; Earl Miles and wife Sherrie of Harrisburg, IL; sister-in-law Lisa Robertson and husband Michael, Hudson, KY; many nieces, nephews and other family members.

David was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Mary (Fischer) Golden, brothers Baby George, Robert, Wayne, and James Golden and sister Nancy (Golden) Bishop; beloved friend and brother John Ritchey.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church in McLeansboro with Pastor Jason Moore officiating.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church in McLeansboro.

Interment of Ashes will be conducted at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery on County Road 200 East in Norris City.

Graveside military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Military Honor Team of Marion, the American Legion Post 224 and VFW Post 3581 of Carmi.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s honor to the Veterans Association. A reception will follow at Freedom Baptist Church for family and friends.
