JOHNSTON CITY (WMIX) – State officials continue to monitor a situation at a Williamson County mine.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, they were alerted to a potential slope slide situation of a retention pond at Pond Creek Mine near Johnston City. There was a concern of potential flooding if the pond berm slides enough.

The Mach Mining Company is reportedly aware of the situation and is working with IDNR. Officials are at the site working to stabilize the slope.
