METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, May 20, 2024.
On May 13, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of West 10th. Officers learned that the victim was intentionally struck in the stomach with a bicycle by Curtis W. Whited, 44, of Metropolis. Whited was arrested for Domestic Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On May 14, 2024, Crystal G. Busby, 49, of Metropolis was arrested on 7th near Yasoda. She was wanted on warrants issued by Massac County. The warrant was for FTA-Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis officers were called to the area of 19th and Simmons. The Animal Control officer was flagged down by a female that was bleeding from a head injury. She advised that she was struck in the head by Marcellous D. Foster, 40, of Metropolis who was last seen riding a bicycle towards 10th Street. Metropolis officers located Foster on 6th and Catherine. Foster was charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis officers were called to a residence on Security Drive. The victim stated that her home and car were broken into. A laptop and clothes were taken from the residence and it was captured on video. The offender was recognized by the victim and officer as Shane M. Vinson, 21, of Metropolis. Vinson was located at his mother’s residence as well as the items that were taken. Vinson was taken into custody, handcuffed and placed in the squad car. The officer then went back to talk to the mother. During this time, Vinson was able to escape from the squad car and a manhunt ensued with the assistance of deputies from Massac County and a trooper from the Illinois State Police which happened to be in the area. Vinson was located hiding under a truck. Vinson was charged with Residential Burglary and Escape. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On May 15, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 1300 block of Girard for a theft. The victim stated that James B. Padgett stole three Hydrocodone pills from her. This was captured on video. Padgett was charged and given a notice to appear for the theft, however he was also wanted on a Massac County warrant for FTA-DUI. Padgett was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On May 18, 2024, a Metropolis officer stopped a gold-colored SUV for failing to stop at the stop sign on 6th and Oak Street. Upon speaking with the driver, John L. Burkhead, 60, of Metropolis, the officer could detect a very strong odor of raw cannabis emitting from the vehicle. A search revealed approximately 59 grams of cannabis, 5 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Burkhead was charged with the drugs as well as operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis officer observed Andrea M. Simmons, 45, of Metropolis walking in the parking lot of the Fairmont Apartments. Simmons was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Driving while License Suspended. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis officer observed Justin J. Todd, 33, of Hickory, KY, walk into the Family Dollar on West 10th Street. The officer was aware that Todd was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Domestic Battery. Todd was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On May 19, 2024, Elijah M. Garza, 19, of Metropolis was arrested at the Baymont Hotel. Garza was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued for Aggravated Assault. Garza was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
